SAP S/4 HANA is the newest generation of intelligent ERP Business suite systems. SAP S/4 HANA is based on the SAP HANA memory database, enabling companies to perform transactions and analyze business data. SAP launched S / 4 HANA back in February 2015, S/4 HANA is described as one of SAP’s flagships within the ERP Business Suite.
SAP S/4 HANA is, first and foremost, much more user-friendly and can both solve more complex problems and handle more significant amounts of data than its predecessors. It is available on-premise, in the cloud, and in hybrid installation models, where SAP helps push users towards the cloud-based solution.
The story behind S/4 HANA - and the difference between HANA and S/4 HANA
SAP S/4 HANA is an abbreviation for SAP Business 4 SAP, which means that this is the fourth version of SAP Business Suite explicitly designed to run on SAP HANA. S/4 HANA originates from the SAP HANA database, released in 2011. Here, SAP enabled large amounts of operational and transactional business data processing. In 2013, SAP launched the SAP Business Suite at HANA – a HANA-based ERP system that included CRM, SRM, PLM, and SCM modules.
With the creation of SAP S/4 HANA, the database concept had to be rethought, and therefore, among other things, rewritten 400 million code lines. SAP S/4 HANA has made the ERP system easier to understand and use and much more user-friendly for developers. With S/4 HANA, companies can reinvent business models and generate new revenue by taking advantage of the internet of things and big data by connecting people, devices, and business networks. Since S/4 HANA does not require batch processing, companies can also simplify and run them in real-time. This means that business users, according to SAP, can gain insight into data anywhere in real-time for planning, execution, prediction, and simulation.
SAP S/4 HANA with integrated analytics
S/4 HANA's analytics allow users to perform real-time analytics on live transaction data. This is done through virtual data models, pre-built models, and reports based on SAP HANA Core Data Services, which analyze HANA's operational data without requiring a data warehouse. The analysis functions are supplied with S/4 HANA software and do not require separate installations or licenses.

One of the most critical components of S/4 HANA is SAP Finance, formerly Simple Finance, which aims to streamline financial processes and enable real-time analysis of financial data.
